Between Beauty and Beast

We are proud to welcome Nadja Asghar as new artist in our gallery! Asghar has a bachelors degree in illustration from London Metropolitan University, and has worked and lived Stavanger since 2020.

The artist has an international background, with an Iranian father, born in Kenya, and a Norwegian mother. Asghar herself is born in Norway, but the family moved to Doha in Qatar when she was four years old. There she attended a British school and eventually moved back to Norway.

Her artistic works reflects her mixed background and influences from different cultures; The grotesque, the beautiful and the ugly, all the interesting aspects that comes with being human.

Asghar explore the dysphoria and chaos in the human condition, often using herself as model or inspiration. The pictures are sometimes humorous and often surreal. And they are always made with a soft heart for the vulnerable, expressing how it feels to be silenced or captured in a feeling or situation.

Using ink and acrylic paint – and in her newest works also embroidery – Asghar experiments with both expression and content, as shown in “Chaos” and “Winter Landscape”, where the firmament is neatly dotted with stars in orderly lines.

Asghar has shown her works in exhibitions in Norway and abroad, and we hope you will enjoy her works as much as we do!
