«Steffen spat on the floor, and with a wide sweep of his arm he shoveled the table clean of glasses, cups, carafes and thermos. The policemen threw themselves on him, and one grabbed and tried to bend Steffen´s right arm behind his back. Steffen jerked free with all his power knocking his elbow straight into the face of the other policeman. The policeman started to bleed from his nose, and within seconds Steffen lay howling with pain on the floor, with a knee in his back and his right arm twisted almost out of joint.»
